Wedding Photography of Amy and Gaz | Huntsman Inn, Holmfirth

My first wedding of the year saw me photographing Amy and Gaz’s special day in the Huddersfield and Holmfirth area. Their marriage was at St John’s Church in Golcar (a big thanks to the vicar for making me feel so welcome) and was followed by a reception at the Huntsman Inn on the edge of the moors above Holmfirth. Given the proximity to where I do a lot of my landscape photography I knew we were going to get a great chance to do some portrait photos with a really local feel and to throw in some of my landscape background – it’s not every day you see a wedding photographer putting a Lee graduated filter in front of a lens!

Rather than hiring a traditional wedding vehicle, Amy arrived in the Church in a rather cool VW camper van – very cool! Thankfully, with some persuasive driving, it made it out of Meltham, up to the top of the Pennine hills after the ceremony!

After a very efficient round of group shots, the wedding guests enjoyed some great food – I took the opportunity to do a few sunset portraits between courses – it’s nice to get some different light – for those interested, the set-up was pretty straight forward – full power flash shooting through an umbrella with a 1/2 blue gelled flash as key and a 1/8 power flash behind to give a bit of rim light.

The evening party was ‘banging’ – super work by the DJ (I forget his name but if anybody wants to add it to the comments below, I’ll give him a shout out / link!) and a guest spot by Dr Weevil – I’ve never seen a DJ playing a violin before! Something really unique – all the sounds were laid down live to build the set up.

Just before I left, something I’ve been meaning to try for a while – sparkler shots! Given my involvement with the Marsden Imbolc Fire festival – it was a natural progression to get some kind of ‘fire swinging’ into my wedding work! Heads up to Tinder, Gemma and Ian (my brother!) for modelling for me whilst I got setup!
