Last weekend saw Richard and Fiona tie the knot at St John’s Church in Golcar, Huddersfield – the second wedding in a row where I have been the photographer at the same Church – a first for me and not surprising given the number of wedding venues there are! The weather threw virtually everything at us but thankfully it didn’t get in our way – a few quick dashes for shelter at times and the umbrellas sure came in handy… After the ceremony we headed for a spot not far from Scamonden reservoir for some portrait shots (a spot we selected during their pre-wedding shoot) before heading for the Turnpike Inn at Rishworth moor – also a venue I have photographed before.
Fiona and Richard chose to have me photograph their wedding day in full (something I include in all my packages), starting at Richards parents house in Golcar in the morning and ending well into the evening celebrations. I’m a big softy at the best of times but it has to be said that this was one heck of an emotional wedding day! I had to try and hide my tears more than once during the speeches! Maybe it was due to the roller-coaster of emotions I’ve had in my personal life recently with the birth of my second son only 2 weeks before – or maybe I’m just plain soft! I cried with laughter at one point and there was hardly a dry eye in the house when it came to the final ‘speech’ by Richard and Fiona’s absolutely adorable daughter, Erin. Fiona’s sister (and bridesmaid) asked me to put a quick slideshow together made up of images she had taken alongside some I had taken during a family photo shoot at Beaumont Park at the end of last year – all along with a bit of a narrative… You’d think that, having had a hand in making it, that I’d be fine with it – and to be honest, I wasn’t watching it as it was playing, but just seeing how the bride and groom reacted and knowing what they were watching had me in floods!!! You’ll find the video under the photos below.
Also there to capture Fiona and Richards big day was videographer, Andy Dracup. For anybody looking for a videographer for their wedding, I’d certainly throw his name into the hat – a pleasure to work with and his results were superb from what I have seen so far.
After capturing the first dance, I set up my flash gear outside to capture some sunset / dusk portraits – the sunset never quite materialised but we still got some pretty pleasing photos anyway – the only snag was that I was practically eaten alive by the swarms of midges! After my work was complete, I said my goodbyes (leaving a fantastic party behind! Berry Brow FC and their chants rock!!) and set off home to start the process of backing everything up.
Congratulations again to Mr and Mrs Oakley! A fantastic wedding day and it was a pleasure to spend the day with you! For a small taste of the day, take a look through the photos below. I’m looking forward to sharing the full set with them when they get back from their honeymoon!
Update: Just heard back from Fiona and Richard:
The photos are absolutely perfect, you’ve captured our perfect day in only a way we could have hoped and dreamed of.
Thanks guys!
