It really was an honour and a priviledge to be Sally and Sam’s wedding photographer – I have known them and their family for a few years after Sally’s Mum bought one of my landscape prints a few years back – one thing lead to another and I did a couple of family shoots and a further landscape commission so despite already having closed my books for 2015 (having maxed out my bookings), I agreed to be their wedding photographer!
The happy couple got married at Christ Church, New Mill (near Holmfirth) – it was the first time I have photographed a wedding at this Church so I popped along to the start of the wedding rehearsal and was welcomed by Reverend Sean Robertshaw and my former A-Level computing lecturer, Dr Geoff Lockwood, who is also a skilled organist / pianist. After a quick chat about the New Horizon mission to Pluto and data transmissions, I quickly established the key locations I was going to use on the day.
My day started with a quick visit to see the lads preparing for the big day before nipping down to the local pub for a swift pint (for them, not for me of course!). I then headed to Horn cote Farm, a large holiday cottage with grounds that had a marquee in, to photograph the ladies getting ready (the bridesmaid’s make up was ny Karen Hardy, Sally’s by Becky Tunnacliffe of Affinity, Almondbury and hair was Kathryn, Sarah and Isobel of Pelo, Honley), Sally’s beautiful wedding dress (and funky texan style boots!), flowers (by Hobsons) and general preparations.
Sally arrived at the Church in style on a horse and cart before the ceremony began. She was walked down the aisle by her father before taking the last few steps with her brothers. The ceremony whizzed by with cheerful hymns (for the second wedding in a row, I didn’t need the order of service to know the words and belted out as I photographed!) accompanied by organist Dr Geoff Lockwood (certainly no bum notes here! A joy to listen to) and some lovely readings before it came to the register signing. Whilst Sally and Sam were signing the register, the guests were entertained by the beautiful voice of Jackie Laflamme singing John Legends All of Me and Ave Maria) again, accompanied by Geoff on the piano.
Upon exiting the Church we made our way back to Horncote farm for the group shots and a short portrait session before the meal whilst the guests were entertained by singing by Naomi Akroyed. Speeches took place before the meal catered for by Amanda Guest Food. The guests were directed to their table by a table plan and table numbers made by Nichola at Add Your Image (who seems to be suppling nearly all the weddings I’m shooting this year!). All the flowers in the marquee were supplied by Ann, Sally’s Mum!
After the relaxed meal, the weather was kind enough to allow people to chill out for a while in the sun’s rays before local band Two Pence kicked off the evening celebrations. Evening catering was by Da Vinci’s Pizza (my personal choice for takeaway Pizza in Honley – we’re regular customers!)
Without getting all emo, Sally and Sam, I wish you all the very best – it was clear how thoughtful you both are and I thank you for making me so welcome on your big day. Enjoy the photos and I hope they bring back many happy memories for you over the years.
