What a wonderful wedding day (although maybe I should say what an “Awesome” day!) I had at Crow Hill wedding venue, photographing Grace and Joss’s transatlantic marriage!
Joss and Grace first got in touch after seeing some of my photos from a friend’s wedding last year. With them living over the pond in the USA, we did a lot of the early contact via email before moving onto Skype for the pre-wedding consultation and then the pre-wedding ‘shoot’ took the form of a video that I shot at Crow Hill and uploaded to YouTube, talking them through where we could use on the day for certain shots and my thoughts on logistics – a first for me but I think it worked well so I’ll be offering the service again for any bride and grooms that find it difficult to visit the venue with me before their big day.
The wedding day started quite early with me photographing a few scene setting shots in and around Marsden.
Next to Crow Hill in Marsden to get a few photos of the wedding venue and catch up with ‘the lads’ in the Lodge at Crow Hill. With eight groomsman and eight bridesmaids, the place was buzzing as excitement for the day ahead built! Crow Hill is a country house / estate dating back 200 years, nestled into the hills near Huddersfield in Marsden on the edge of the Marsden Moor National Trust Estate.
I zig-zagged back and forth between the bride and groom (hair by Sally Bale of Pelo, Honley – a former bride!), took a few photos in the marquee (meeting the lovely Laura of Little Bird Cake Company setting up her very elegant wedding cake) and before I knew it, the morning had vanished and we were on the count down to the big moment!
With such good weather, the wedding ceremony was held outside under the shade of the old sycamore tree. The bridal party were paired up and came down the aisle in turn after the flower girls before Grace was walked down by her Mum and Dad to be given away.
The wedding ceremony was conducted by a friend of Joss and Grace’s from back in the States – what a great job he did! I’m not sure what he does for a day job but he certainly looked and sounded the part (I felt sure I’d seen him on screen)
Post ceremony, we rattled through the ‘formal’ (and not so ‘formal’!) group shots as quickly as we could before doing a brief portrait photography session of the newly married couple in the grounds of Crow Hill. During the wedding breakfast (I was treated to a delicious Steak Pie!) I backed up the images and the timings allowed me to pull out a few highlight photos from the day to project during the evening (not something I can always promise as timings don’t always allow – this was a first but I will be aiming to do it again!).
After the emotional speeches came the cake cutting, first dance and the father, daughter dance (not something that I’ve seen before in a British wedding but man – even I welled up) the party got started quickly.
We did the evening wedding portrait photography in the grounds of Crow Hill, some lovely locations to choose from and then once the sun had gone down, we had a bit of fun with a sparkler or five!
Many congratulations to Joss and Grace on hosting such a wonderful wedding and thank you for asking me to be your wedding photographer!
