Lee and Emma got married at the Huntsman Inn on the hills above Holmfirth last week, my second wedding at this lovely little venue, only yards from where I started out as a landscape photographer.
A fun day, starting at Coddy’s farm B&B before moving to the Huntsman. Although the weather could have been more favourable, we managed a few shots outside before retreating inside, away from the cold, strong wind for a few of the group photos. Whilst the bride, groom and guests sat down for their wedding breakfast, I jumped in my car to go and find a sheltered spot for a few private portraits of the couple. We had planned on heading up to a location we’d identified in their pre-wedding photography but the wind would have been a problem so I headed down the valley. Before long (and after a few dead ends!) I found the ideal spot – only two minutes from the venue but very sheltered and with some nice backdrops provided by trees and a few bluebells! Perfect! After the meal and the speeches were done (some of the shortest speeches I have heard but no less sincere), Emma, Lee and one of their bridesmaids came with me to our little wooded valley – we got there and back in just over 15 minutes and managed to capture some great photos.
As the evening came around, I set up my lighting gear for the first dance, captured a bit more atmosphere and chatted with the guests. First dance done, I moved my lighting equipment outside (a three light setup triggered by radio remotes) for some sunset shots before joining the party inside again.
I was well looked after – always a bonus getting fed – twice! Sunday lunch, hog roast (by GigPig) AND a tiny taster of wedding cake by Oliver James Sugarcraft (a husband / wife team whose wedding I photographed a few years ago!) – tasted as good as it looked.
Sometimes it’s the small, unexpected things I do on a wedding day that count too. I realised the couples guest book had been sat on the side, unloved so I set the ball rolling, taking it to a table and asking the guests to sign it and pass it on. I also doubled up as chauffeur, dropping the lads in Holmfirth for a the customary pre-wedding drink and I always find time to talk to and be friendly with guests (always a pleasure!).
